Im going to be needing 7 seats from time to time in the near future. So i've been thinking about selling my XR8 and buying as GU patrol or a 100 series cruiser. but the question is which one!! what would you buy and why??

    Cheers

As with anything, both vehicles have Pro's & Cons. If it where me, I would take both for a test drive to see how you all would feel in them (eg. what it drove like, comfort, room, that sort of thing). Work out how much you want to spend buying the vehicle. Probably wouldn't hurt to check out price on parts and spares.
    Just my 2cents

    Cheers................Dave

Well I'm a Toyota man through and through... in saying that my choice would be a GU 4.2 turbo diesel but would depend on price and condition for either and I'd stick with a 105 Series if going for a cruiser.

IMO i would go a troll with 4.2 TD as still live axle. with the cruiser you only get live axle with the povpack 100.
    higher models are IFS.
    cheers Glen.

    Ha ha tricked ya lol!
Nah mate, while I like my Nissan's (in case you couldn't tell whistle ), I can appreciate a nice whatever badge is on the vehicle, and while one person's choise of vehicle, it's not nessesarilly anothers. Having said that, there's nothing like a bit of friendly ribbing whistle I just can't stand people that are one eyed towards the type of car they prefere censored

As Deadly said it's bit like the Green one or the Blue. All comes down to personal choice. However in todays times the mighty $ has a big deciding factor, so do your own home work, work out which one is going to offer the better deal as a vehicle. But also think of future uses and what you would like to do in future with the vehicle.

Both vehicles are pretty similar and at present the GU's are a generally cheaper and for your 20k can get some with some good gear already on them. You can also still pick up pretty good GQs with the 7 seats, cheaper again. Either way, if you go diesel try to get the 4.2 turbo, very good motor. Steer clear of the 2.8s and early 3 litres.

With the Cruisers, secondhand prices of the 80s is still fairly high and not much difference at time to the early model 100 Series. The 80s are live axle. With the 100 Series, there is the 100s and the 105s. The 100s are ifs while the 105s are live axle. Oh and Bargie the 105s are not just the poverty pack.

If 20k is your mark then buy a patrol as there are not as many Cruisers under the 20 mark, and even less 100 Series to choose from or that are worth looking at.

    True that Al!
I recall in the 105's you could get GXL solid axles in the diesels but I'm pretty sure all the petrol V8's were IFS wink

Personally $$$ aside as a tourer I would prefer a T/D Auto 100, but thats just me.

And yes that an IFS set but as a tourer, its not an issue. Still have the lux for play

Pajeros and Prados come with seven seats and you could pick up a good example of one for under 20k

    Post  Mr. Slow 2009-10-29, 14:01

Personally, I would (and did) look for the newest, lowest km model for what you are prepared to pay. Either Nissan or Toyota.

When I bought Mr Slow in 2006, I wanted a 4.2 TD GU Patrol no matter what. I was prepared to pay up to $36k.

All the 4.2L TD Patrols I came across at the time for that coin had 100,000+ km and were 2000/2001 models. Bearing in mind that I plan to keep this vehicle for 10-15, maybe 20 years, that was a fair chunk taken off the life that I was not prepared to cop.

Then I came across my 2004 105 Cruiser standard. It had 18,000 km, was an ex government vehicle, had a plethora of accessories already fitted and was such a bargain that I just couldn't pass it up.

Moral to the story, keep your options open, research and bargain hard!!! Full size 4wds are in such low demand at the moment that prices have fallen considerably. Good luck ! ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok
